The Winchester 94
Introduction
This month we will look at the direct competitor of the Marlin 1894. The Winchester 94 has an equally long and distinguished history and is perhaps better known than its Marlin counterpart.

Barrel lengths range from 18 inches to 24 inches.
Action
Lever action with “side ejection”, tubular magazine. In actual fact, not a true side ejection but a modification of the original vertical ejection system.
Suitable for
Precision underlever rifle competitions such as at the Phoenix Meeting and with Durham and Cleveland Small Bore Rifle Association.
Timed and Precision matches at the Phoenix Meeting and other Cowboy Action shooting.
Wild West re-enactments.
Advantages
Extremely well made and finished.
Extremely accurate when properly maintained.
Good open sights.
Disadvantages
Heavy triggers.
Maintenance can be challenging, however, a monkey’s tail has proved most useful in this endeavour.
