Disassembly
- Remove the larger lever-pin cover screw top left of the receiver.
- With a 1/8 punch push out the lever pin through the left receiver wall, this will disengage the lever from the breech block and also free the firing pin which can be pulled from the rear of the breech block.
- Remove the link plate cross pin (lower left receiver). This is held by a small grub screw in the link plate, once removed the pin pushes out.
- Pull down the lever assembly, this action will cause the locking block to move down also. In this position disengage the link plate from the locking block by pulling it forward and out of the receiver.
- Remove the shell lifter screw (left side of the receiver about an inch forward of the trigger) and take out the shell lifter.
- Remove the screw at the rear of the upper tang and pull the butt off.
- With the hammer at rest remove the screw (left side rear frame) which will allow the lower tang assembly complete with the trigger and hammer to be pulled free.
- The hammer spring is an awkward item to remove and its strut has a hole in it so a pin can be pushed through to capture it. However, unless anything is wrong, leave it in this position as cleaning this assembly is easy.
- Pull the locking block downwards and out of the receiver, note its position as it must go back in the same way. Also note the plunger pin that transfers the hammer blow to the firing pin. This is retained by a role pin should you need to remove it, however, this should not be necessary.
- The breech block can now be pulled rearwards from the receiver but the safety catch must be in the fire position (push left).
- The ejector and spring are retained by a role pin underneath the front face of the breech block and will need to be drifted out. Note: it will be under tension so do this under control.
- If required, the combination sear and trigger stop spring and trigger stop can be removed from the lower tang by drifting out the retaining pin to the left.
- If required, the loading gate can be removed by undoing the screw to the rear of the gate on the right side of the receiver. Two small screws on either side of the receiver retain the cartridge guides and unless required are best left alone.
- The magazine plug is retained by a screw under the end of its tube (by the muzzle), remove this and the magazine spring and follower can be removed.
Reassembly
- Reassemble and slide in the breech block.
- Refit the lower tang assembly and with it slightly pushed down, insert the locking block in its correct position.
- Refit the butt and stock screw, this will serve to realign the lower tang and keep the locking block in position.
- Refit the shell lifter.
- Refit the lever / link plate so that its end connects with the slots in the locking block. At the same time slide the arm of the lever through the shell lifter so that it engages with the underside of the breech block. Then locate the nose of the link plate with the forward end of the receiver and refit its cross pin and grub screw.
- Slide in the firing pin keeping its chamfered end at six o’clock to the locking block.
- Push the breech block all the way forward and align the hole in the arm of the lever with the hole in the breech block and the left side of the receiver and slide in the connecting pin.
- Screw in the pin cover plate.
So now you know …
